I’m never going to lose the weight….

I think I am coming to a realization. A really real realization that if I don’t learn to control what I put in my mouth, I am never going to lose this weight. It all comes back down to food. I was eating some pasta and tuna last night, thinking that it was a fairly healthy meal, when my sister pointed out that white flour pasta was basically a bowl of sugar. And she was right. I know that. I think I tend to think in terms of worst case alternatives. “Well, its not fast food, so its ok to eat.”

I want to say that I will just concentrate on working out, and leave the food issue for later, but I know in my heart that that is not the answer. I don’t plan my meals, ever, and that is a major hindrance. I am not a planner, though. I am a fly by seat of my pants kind of gal, and because of that a normal sized family could probably fit in them. Eating right and exercising are the two things that I hate most in this world, but if I don’t get a handle on it, I can kiss my ‘Wants’ list goodbye.

You are right, they should go together, healthy eating and exercise.

Very insightful and serious realization. Now you need a plan to follow up and make it work.

Tres it is so funny that you say you are not a planner because I am the OCD gal. We should get together maybe between the two of us we can come up with the perfect plan. Seriously though it does take a plan of some kind. You will get it all together I know you will because you are here at BS and that shows me your motivation. I love your new pic. Luv Ya! sista!

One thing that really helps me is to look at the cals BEFORE you eat: )
this is a great website that has a lot of food on it…www.calorieking.com
I also have a small book they publish so I can take it with me if I go out to eat!
    You CAN do it!

I never was a planner, but I learned I have to be in order to eat right! I need to know in advance and plan ahead! You can do it! It takes a little work in the begining, but then it isn’t so bad once you get use to it!
    Hang in there!

I do that all the time, think to myself “I can eat this because at least its not (insert really unhealthy food here)”, even though what I am eating isn’t really good for me at all. I’m not a planner at all either, my blog today was about how I never really think about calories and don’t want to do a food journal. You are right though, if we can’t control what’s going in, we won’t get what we want out of this.

Ok, here’s where I differ from most…I hate veggies and I dont do fruit. If you try to take away my pasta..the fight is on. I guess what I’m trying to say is that you don’t have to give up your favorite foods…just portion control. This works, at least for me, cause despite the fact I do eat super healthy foods…I have lost weight before and I am doing it now. It would be great if I loved healthy foods, and I do make changes that I can accept…but, after years of trying to force myself to eat those foods..I dont like…I decided to deal with what I can. I am also one of those that dont plan meals…even if i sat down and did that…dont mean I would follow it. Bottom line is that you have to find what works for you as a person. That goes double on the exercises…find what you can do/what you like. You can do this girl! It’s a step by step progress…it may not be easy…but its worth doing. Good luck and god bless!

I am a big beleiver in everything in moderation, BUT you do have to educate yourself on what is good and not so good for you.

My sister once argued with me that her ceasar salad was better than my plain hamburger. I told her there were more fat and calories in her dressing than in my whole meal. Went home. Looked it up on line, and sure enough, her chicken ceasar salad had 876 calories. My plain hamburger came in at about 450…EDUCATION is the key…

Fat. Calories. Carbs. Whatever you want to track is fine, but I do think, to be successful. TRULY succesful, you have to do both, control your eating and exercise…GOOD LUCK!!!

What about starting with substituting foods? For example, instead of white pasta, use whole wheat. There is a really good one by Healthy Choice (brown box) that you can get on sale for $1 a box that I love. I actually like it better than white pasta now. And maybe add in some tomatos, celery, and lettuce with the pasta and tuna so that you are getting in some veggies? I think you have a great attitude and you can do this. Good luck!!
